Here, we are assuming you can log into your computer and get to your desktop either through safe mode or the regular startup process. For example, if the BSOD manifests itself when you are surfing the web, then you have to access your network adapter drivers — and this means you have to click on the expansion icon beside the Network adapters category.
If the BSOD manifests itself when you are playing games or running graphics-intensive applications, then you have to access the drivers for your graphics card — and this means you have to click on the expansion icon beside the Display Adapters category. If the Roll Back Driver button appears to be greyed out — which means you cannot use it — then you will be unable to perform the rollback task for the driver you selected. Your computer cannot access or find the old driver software.
Perhaps, your system is yet to install a new driver. In other words, there is no old driver for your computer to reinstall. If you did the work in safe mode, then you have to restart your PC to force it to go into the regular Windows operating system environment. If you could not get your computer to roll back the problematic driver — because the Roll Back Driver button was grayed out — or if your computer continued to go down with blue screens of death even after you brought back the old drivers successfully to replace the problematic drivers, then you have to install driver updates.
The issues that trigger the BSOD are likely to become a nonfactor once your computer starts using a new driver. Here too, you have to use some functions accessed from the Device Manager application and perform the necessary tasks from its window.
First, you might want to check the driver version currently installed on your computer. Follow the instructions below:. The value for the Driver Version field, in particular, is very important. Those digits represent your driver version. Now, you have to search online for information on the driver. You need to know if your computer is running the latest version of the driver or if a new driver build has been released.
Continue with the instructions below:. In any case, after you confirm that there is a new driver for the problematic device, then you have to remove the current driver and then install the latest driver available.
These are the instructions you must follow to get rid of the current driver:. Windows is supposed to bring up a dialog or window asking you if you want to proceed with the driver removal operation. Assuming you are done removing the current driver which is problematic , you must move to install the new driver.
Continue with the steps below:. Your computer is now supposed to bring up a window asking you how you want to go about the driver update operation. Auslogics Driver Updater diagnoses driver issues and lets you update old drivers all at once or one at a time to get your PC running smoother. The recommended application will run a scan to detect or identify the faulty, malfunctioning, outdated or old, broken, and corrupted drivers on your computer and also gather the relevant information on them.
Before the fix, i had file version 5. So you apparently installed a pre-release SP3 version. Ogri01 wrote: so why bother? SP3 in general seems to be time-bombed. It doesn't have a network connection because that's the way it's supposed to be, or is that another issue with it? Usually you will find varios versions of GDI DLL in various backup folders. To find out wich version of GDI DLL in this folder. If you can't boot from CD or the console goes wrong, take the hard disk out and connect it to another working system, so you can do it using explorer.
I have yet to find a solution that works for the Dell D laptop other than reimaging my machines. I receive the endless reboot with the Stop: C error. I am not able to boot from Windows CD -- I can select the option, but then the machines hang, and start up the boot loop process again. I cannot boot into any form of Safe Mode either -- same issue, hangs and then goes through the boot loop process again.
I have contacted Dell about this and they have been overwhelmed with phone calls and no solution. I do not have this issue with my Dell D models. Luckily I have more D machines than D machines. VLizzle wrote: I receive the endless reboot with the Stop: C error. Please check that you are using the correct publicly released version of the SP3 updater, by direct download from Microsoft only. I have the same problem but i have another problem. Before i can reach the recovery part on the CD the laptop crashes. It has been known to crash before this happened but i need some help. Anyone have any idea's what i can do?

Friday, April 11, PM. Saturday, April 12, AM. Ditto, same error here as well. You obviously did not read my posting completely. I have attempted to do what you described but for some reason it is not accepting my password so HOW do I get past the password issue?
Thanks Shashank, works a treat, will remember the new ServicePackFiles dir. JimAZ, have a look on the net here for a solution. It's not working. I tried to copy gdi Does using recovery mode do something other than just copy the file across? One last thing, I didn't keep a copy of the old gdi Any special reason why I should have? Thanks to anyone that can help, and thanks to Shashank for the tips so far.
Saturday, April 12, PM. ThomasLee, Thanks you very much. I downloaded the suggested file and used the GDI It worked a treat. PC rebooted upon first attempt after that. As we say in Glasgow, you've done me a really good turn.
Thanks again. ThomasLee wrote:. Sorry, I mainly use macs and I've got the same problem on my wife's computer. Sunday, April 13, AM. Thanks shashank it works.
Just stopped by to say I have the problem too with RC2. Did not have the problem on my laptop, but did on my desktop. Sunday, April 13, PM. Thank you sooo much for posting this. It worked great. My recovery cd didnt work, so I just put the hardrive to another computer and copied the files to the right directory.
You are one reason not to hate Microsoft. Thanks Thanks Thanks und danke. Monday, April 14, AM. Shouldn't be any uninstall issues, let us know in a new discussion thread here if you see any, please. Dear TomasLee. My sincerely appreciation! Monday, April 14, PM. Hi I've got the samer problem but i've never used the recovery console before and I'm having trouble following the instructions does any one have this broken down action by action so that a total novice can follow it.
Now it Works. Tuesday, April 15, PM. Good luck to you all. Well, I am getting farther along now. However when I start up all seems to be going ok. Then, after it seems to boot properly it comes to the login screen, I type in my password and it looks like it is going to start up only to come to what appears to be the login screen again but now it has just my icon and name and it freezes. Any ideas? Wednesday, April 16, AM. Butcer, We want to hear your problems, opinions, and issues, but we do have rules of conduct in these forums.
Thanks for your consideration. Well you guys have obviously no skill at programing that is for sure and do not belong in such a job , how the hell did this get released is what i have to ask? Did the guys who made Windows ME make rc3? I am certainly gd unhappy. My SP2 install disk doesn't even give me an option for recovery console, just asks to install to whatever partition and an old pre SP1 disk gives me the recovery console but says an error prevents access to the drive so I can't even move files around.
Looks like the only option I'll have is to yank the drive out of the computer and hopefully get my laptop to access it and see if it will boot up after I get the file swapped. Take this garbage SP3 file down before you damage anyone else's XP setups! Well duh the low iq scriptkiddies who made this beta did not even test this.
When i test a system beta i dont expect a full fledge desurction of it. Dew 0. Butcer wrote: Well duh the low iq scriptkiddies who made this beta did not even test this. Saturday, April 19, PM. Sunday, April 20, AM. Thank you very much, it worked,. Tuesday, April 22, AM. Yep only thing i have on 3 seperate machines is their inability to update. Thanks, Abed. Wednesday, April 23, PM. I was just trying to proactively test this before we decide to deploy it in our enviroment Regards. Thanks William Worth. Hi, does anyone can send me the gdi Thanks a lot.

The transaction manager was unable to be successfully initialized. Transacted operations are not supported. Transaction support within the specified file system resource manager was not started or was shut down due to an error.
The metadata of the resource manager has been corrupted. The resource manager will not function. The transaction object already has a superior enlistment, and the caller attempted an operation that would have created a new superior. Only a single superior enlistment is allowed. The caller has called a response API, but the response is not expected because the transaction manager did not issue the corresponding request to the caller.
It is too late to perform the requested operation, because the transaction has already been aborted. It is too late to perform the requested operation, because the transaction has already been committed. The current transaction context associated with the thread is not a valid handle to a transaction object.
An attempt to create space in the transactional resource manager's log failed. The failure status has been recorded in the event log. The object file, stream, or link that corresponds to the handle has been deleted by a transaction savepoint rollback. The specified file miniversion was found but has been invalidated. The most likely cause is a transaction savepoint rollback. The handle has been invalidated by a transaction.
The most likely cause is the presence of memory mapping on a file or an open handle when the transaction ended or rolled back to savepoint. The transaction outcome is unavailable because the resource manager responsible for it is disconnected. The file cannot be opened in a transaction because its identity depends on the outcome of an unresolved transaction.
The operation cannot be performed because another transaction is depending on this property not changing. The operation would involve a single file with two transactional resource managers and is, therefore, not allowed. The operation would leave a transactional resource manager in an inconsistent state and is therefore not allowed.
A rollback could not be scheduled because a previously scheduled rollback has already executed or been queued for execution. Promotion was required to allow the resource manager to enlist, but the transaction was set to disallow it.
This file is open for modification in an unresolved transaction and can be opened for execute only by a transacted reader. The request to thaw frozen transactions was ignored because transactions were not previously frozen. The target volume is not a snapshot volume.
This operation is valid only on a volume mounted as a snapshot. The savepoint operation failed because files are open on the transaction, which is not permitted. The call to create a transaction manager object failed because the Tm Identity that is stored in the log file does not match the Tm Identity that was passed in as an argument. There is no valid data. The transactional resource manager cannot currently accept transacted work due to a transient condition, such as low resources.
The transactional resource manager had too many transactions outstanding that could not be aborted. The transactional resource manager has been shut down.
The specified resource manager was unable to create an enlistment because its associated transaction manager is not online. The specified transaction manager was unable to create the objects contained in its log file in the Ob namespace. Therefore, the transaction manager was unable to recover. The call to create a superior enlistment on this transaction object could not be completed because the transaction object specified for the enlistment is a subordinate branch of the transaction. Only the root of the transaction can be enlisted as a superior.
Because the associated transaction manager or resource manager has been closed, the handle is no longer valid. The specified operation could not be performed on this superior enlistment because the enlistment was not created with the corresponding completion response in the NotificationMask. The specified operation could not be performed because the record to be logged was too long. This can occur because either there are too many enlistments on this transaction or the combined RecoveryInformation being logged on behalf of those enlistments is too long.
The kernel transaction manager had to abort or forget the transaction because it blocked forward progress. The handle is no longer properly associated with its transaction.
It might have been opened in a transactional resource manager that was subsequently forced to restart. Please close the handle and open a new one. The specified operation could not be performed because the resource manager is not enlisted in the transaction.

Minifilters should never return this value. Posting this operation to a worker thread for further processing is not safe at this time because it could lead to a system deadlock. The Filter Manager was not initialized when a filter tried to register. Make sure that the Filter Manager is loaded as a driver. The filter is not ready for attachment to volumes because it has not finished initializing FltStartFiltering has not been called.
The filter must clean up any operation-specific context at this time because it is being removed from the system before the operation is completed by the lower drivers. The Filter Manager had an internal error from which it cannot recover; therefore, the operation has failed.
