I finally installed the gear indicator. Of course, you do not have to "cut into the wiring" but I am reluctant to use the plastic splices because they tend to work for a while then become intermittent.
I ended up stripping a short length of the wires I wanted to connect to and solder a pigtail harness to a DA-9 connector. The mate of the DA-9 is connected to the GI. I did this at the connections under the left fairing insert picture attached I have attached the pinouts for the two connectors going to the fairing harness:. Then I protected the solder joints with electrical tape. I have annotated the schematic diagram with pin functions. I looked at the speedo and tach signals with an oscilloscope and they are a little noisy.
I suppose the noise is confusing the device. At the moment, it is calibrated but it took much longer than I think it should have. I may try to put some filtering to see if that makes it easier. Close the side cover until latched. Insert the blade u-contact and press down by finger pressure. Then, fully depress the u-contact with pliers. Close the hinged top cover until latched. Thread starter albertchang Start date Apr 11, It came with an instruction booklet but it only states to connect it to the DLC connector. Does it need to be connected to a power source?
I have seen a thorough instruction on installing it on an earlier ST model but I believe the post ST model is different and does not require such an extensive installation. Did not find anything on the net either. Any help would be excellent. Mellow Joe Admin. Actually it's post models, the model should be the same as yours. There is a red connector under the passenger seat, on the right - sitting on the bike - side. Tnx Mellow. And does it need to be connected to a power source? Or it is just plug-and-play once it is connected to the DLC?
I have read it on the net that the GiPro DS version I got is plug-and-play which does not require connection to the power source. But other articles suggest otherwise. So I am a little confused which is right. The bike is still under warranty and do not want to void it by doing something untoward with it.
There are several types of GIpro available, please see the 'Select your bike' pull down menu below to see which type listed in brackets is suitable for your bike There are no buttons, no programming wires. The unit is fully automatic. In most cases there's no need to cut and splice wires, no need to access several connectors and only ONE plug to connect - it couldn't be simpler! Please note the WSS units are universal and not model specific, but installation has been made as simple as possible.
